John Canales, a TV star, has died at the age of 77.
The musician and radio host’s family said they had lost him on Thursday.
TMZ reports that Johnny’s wife Nora shared the sad news on Facebook on Thursday.
The news source also said that Nora didn’t say how she died in the social media post.
Nora wrote on the page for Johnny’s show, “With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Johnny Canales.”
“Many people loved him as a husband, father, TV host, musician, and entertainer, but he was also a source of hope and joy for many.” The world will never forget how charismatic he was and how hard he worked to promote Latino music and culture.
“Johnny’s spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the legacy he built.”
This was the last sentence of the announcement: “We thank you all for your kind words, love, and support during this difficult time.” Please pray for and think about our family. It’s better to remember him with the love and happiness he brought into our lives.
Johnny is married and has two grown daughters, Zelestial and Miroslava.
Nora, Zelestial, and Miroslava worked together in March to let fans know about Johnny’s health.
“Thank you all for your love and prayers. Johnathan is in our care. He’s in good hands. Thank you all for your prayers and love that never stops. We’re worn out. We’ve been through a lot.
“We feel blessed that you’re with us in spirit and that our prayers are with you. We love you very much.” Make sure he knows he is safe and sound. He has never been to or touched a hospital. Based on Tejano Nation, Nora told fans on Facebook, “He’s never been there.”
“We also have medical people coming to check on him every day, so he’s being very well taken care of, guys,” Miroslava said.
After having a stroke in 2008, Johnny was said to have had health problems in the years before he died.
NO MORE LEGEND
A lot of fans responded to Nora’s post to say how sorry they were and to share memories of Johnny.
“Our hearts go out to the Canales family and all of his fans.” “He was our childhood hero and a mainstay in the business, and his legacy will never be forgotten,” someone wrote.
He was born in Mexico in 1947 and is known as a pioneer and Tejano singer.
The famous star started making The Johnny Canales Show in 1983, after working in radio.
Tejano music from the US and Mexico was featured on the TV show, which ran until it was canceled in 2005.
There were a lot of big stars on the show, and Johnny is said to have given Selena Quintanilla her big break.
Selena went on the show for her 13th birthday and did one of her very first live performances.
