Trump Moves Swiftly on Immigration Policy, Igniting National Debate and Legal Battles

A fatal car crash in Colorado involving a teenage undocumented immigrant from Colombia reignited the U.S. immigration debate.

The teen, who killed 24-year-old Kaitlyn Weaver while driving without a license, received probation instead of jail time, sparking outrage.

ICE later arrested him and his undocumented family for deportation. Trump advisor Stephen Miller confirmed their removal.

This incident aligns with President Trump’s broader immigration crackdown, including ending humanitarian parole programs

and scaling back Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for migrants from Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti, and Nicaragua.

The Supreme Court recently backed Trump’s moves, allowing deportations to proceed despite lower court resistance. Democrats and activists condemned the policies as inhumane, while Trump vowed continued enforcement and threatened sanctuary cities with funding cuts.

Legal uncertainty persists as advocacy groups file challenges, but the administration’s aggressive stance marks a return

to “Zero Tolerance” style enforcement. Immigration has once again become a key issue heading into the 2025 presidential election.
