For his fans’ benefit, Toby Keith has some good news.
The “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” singer, 61, revealed that he received a stomach cancer diagnosis a year ago and expressed hope for a quick return to touring.
The country singer stated, “I’m feeling pretty good,” during a gala on June 2 in advance of his Toby Keith & Friends Golf Tournament. “In general, everything is moving in a very positive direction.”
With cancer, Keith continued, “You never know, so you have to be ready.”
As long as he has the energy for a lengthy show, the celebrity said he hopes to resume traveling by the end of the year.
“I’ve got more wind,” he said to the outlet. And I’m considering setting up shop with the band and performing somewhere for two or three days simply to see if I can make it through two hours.
Keith stated that if he is able to, he will be “out on the road this fall.”
Then we’ll resume work, he continued. “All I have to do is see if I can get through two or three nights of work and get a little break in this chemo.”
The “Beer for My Horses” singer declared, “I’m ready.” “That is life,”
Keith, who is still receiving chemotherapy for stomach cancer, claimed that in addition to feeling “better,” his blood tests have improved and his tumor has reduced by about a third, according to The Oklahoman.
The country singer stated, “I’m about another eight weeks from my last scan.” As a result, “I anticipate that tumor to be even less the next time I look for it, and I’ve only found one so far.”
The Unleashed musician added that he is presently seeing a dietician and getting immunotherapy treatment.
Only twice since disclosing his diagnosis has Keith given the public a health update. The singer of “Red Solo Cup” voiced a similar wish to go on tour once more as soon as possible in an interview with CMT Hot 20 Countdown last December.
In the interview, he stated, “I need a little bit of time to just rest up and heal up.
Keith continued, “Having to go through all that is fairly crippling, but as long as everything continues to go according to plan, then we’ll look at something positive in the future.
In a post on Instagram from last June, Keith initially disclosed his autumn 2021 diagnosis of stomach cancer. He said in the post, “I’ve spent the last six months getting chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. It’s been good thus far. I require some time to rest, heal, and breathe.
I am excited to spend this time with my family, he continued. But I’ll definitely run into the fans shortly. I am eager. -T.”
The country singer thanked his followers for their reaction to the news later that week. In an Instagram post, he expressed his gratitude for everyone’s love and support. “I have the world’s best fans. – T.”
