However, the woman said that since her parents got to Hawaii, they had only been complaining about how much their food cost, even though she had paid for their whole trip.

A woman recently wrote about how angry she was with her parents because she took them on a trip to Hawaii almost for free, but they complained about how expensive the food was. The unknown woman wrote on the Facebook group “Am I The A**hole?” that she thanked her parents for watching her kids by sending them on a trip to Kauai. She continued, “I planned it so that it would be five days during their 36th wedding anniversary.” She also said that she and her husband paid for the plane tickets, hotel, and rental car.

“I sent my parents on a vacation to Kauai as a thank you basically for my mom helping me so much with all of my kids when I had my 4th baby,” she wrote. “I planned it so that it would happen five days after their 36th wedding anniversary.” Their plane ticket, hotel, and rental car were all paid for by my husband and me,” she said.

The woman, however, said that even though she paid for her parents’ trip, all she had heard from them since they got to Hawaii was whining about how much their food cost. “They’ve only told me how expensive their food is a few times.” “Nothing nice, not even a thank you or appreciation note,” she wrote.

Along with the caption, the woman sent her father a picture of one of her messages. In the text message, he sent her a picture of the bill for their restaurant meal, which came to $104.31. She replied to the picture, “Stop complaining, you’re on a free vacation in paradise.” Her dad wrote back, “Our CHEAPEST meal was $40.” About $50 to $60 everywhere.” “Okay, then noted,” the woman replied. “I’ll send you to Arkansas for your next trip.” Her dad said, “A condo would be smarter here. Then you could cook a few meals.”

On Facebook, the woman asked other users if she was wrong for “being so annoyed” by her parents’ messages “complaining about the cost of their meals.” People were quick to share their thoughts on how the woman’s angry response made them feel. Some defended her answer by saying that her parents were being spoiled, while others asked if the cost of the vacation was too high for her parents and if she had thought about whether they could afford to eat out.

“I would feel the same way.” That’s the cocky and self-centered thing I’ve seen in a while. I would text all the time about how grateful I was for that trip. You were SO nice to do that. “I’m so sorry you’re getting this response,” one person wrote. “I wouldn’t be doing it again if all they’re going to do is complain,” said one more.

“Yes, this is beyond generous but if they can’t afford to eat while there, that would be pretty crappy,” said a third user. “Did you ask them before buying the vacay to make sure they could afford the food and whatever else they wanted to do there?” asked one more.
