Kathleen Garraway’s little girl carried her dad Derek Draper’s coffin in and out of his funeral today, where family and friends came to pay their respects.
Not happy The service where Kate and Derek got married almost 20 years ago was attended by Kate’s two children, Darcey and Billy.
Others famous people who came to support Derek’s family during their grief were Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan.
As Kate left the service in Primrose Hill, North London, she held her 14-year-old son Billy’s hand.
While helping to carry her dad’s coffin in and out of the church, her 17-year-old daughter Darcey put on a brave face.
Kate looked somberly as flowers were placed on his coffin. One flower had a note on it that said, “The world won’t be the same without you.”
As she met and hugged mourners and watched her husband’s body being carried into the church, the Good Morning Britain star looked very sad.
As she led Billy inside, the GMB host took a quick look up at the sky.
They were all dressed in black, with Darcey and Billy wearing all black as well.
Four weeks ago, on January 3, Derek died at the age of 56 after a long battle with complications from Covid. His funeral is now taking place.
Derek got very sick early in the pandemic in March 2020 and had to stay in the hospital for 13 months before he could go home.
When he had a heart attack in December, he had to go back to the hospital.
Courageous After taking her COVID-19-stricken husband Derek to Mexico for specialized care, Kate went through “eight grueling weeks.”
Many of Kate’s co-stars from “Good Morning Britain,” like Ben Shephard, Susanna Reid, and Ranvir Singh, went to the funeral.
Lorraine Kelly of ITV and Ben Shephard, who works with Kate as a host on GMB, were also there.
People saw other famous people going into St. Mary the Virgin Church, including Sir Elton John, Judge Rinder, and Myleene Klass.
Kate looked up to Sir Elton while Derek was sick, and she had called the music legend a “huge friend” in the past.
Last year, Sir Elton asked Kate and Derek to be special guests at his Farewell Yellow Brick Road concert at London’s O2 Arena.
TV hosts Fiona Phillips and Martin Frizell, who is the editor of This Morning, both used to work on GMTV, the morning show on ITV.
One of the mourners was Myleene Klass, who had filled in as host of Kate’s Smooth Radio show before.
Kate often talked about her husband’s health on an ITV morning show, and she also hosted two documentaries about how his illness changed their family’s life.
A lot of politicians came to the funeral to show their support, such as Labour leader Keir Starmer and former PM Tony Blair.
Derek was a very important person in the early years of New Labour in the 1990s. He used to work as a researcher for Lord Mandelson.
Kate posted on Instagram that her husband had died, saying, “As some of you may know, he has been critically ill since a cardiac arrest in early December, which turned out to be worse because of the damage Covid did in March 2020.”
“Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed.”
When TV star Kate was photographed for the first time since Derek’s death, she put on a brave face.
The 56-year-old GMB host smiled as a friend hugged her before the funeral.
