When Fred Gilland married his wife, Janice Gillard, 51 years ago, he made an incredible promise.
The man from Knoxville, Tennessee (USA) promised her that he would be close to her until the end, a promise he says he intends to fulfill every day for the rest of his life.
For Fred, keeping his promise means that for the rest of his life, he will drive daily to the cemetery where his wife is buried, where she has been resting for 7 years. Fred is now 78 years old, but he is determined not to let life get in his way when it comes to spending time with the person he loves.
Gillard confesses: “I’ve loved her since I saw her, she was incredibly beautiful.” This man has spent the last 10 years sitting at his wife’s grave, either rain or wind. He says that when he stays there he remembers things from the past when he lived with this strong woman who loved her family more than anything and who had a voice that even Elvis would have envied.
This daily routine by which he honors the memory of his wife is a way by which he honors his promise and keeps the love he carries, alive. His love story is an example that all couples should follow.
