Mexico was the destination of a journey taken by Richard Gere, his wife Alejandra Silva, and their two kids. The group went on a tropical vacation to celebrate Alejandra’s 40th birthday.

The actor reportedly contracted the sickness while on vacation with his family. A representative for an actor told NBC News that the rumor was true but would not offer any other details.

The news source went on to state that although the actor from The American Gigolo had a cough prior to traveling to Mexico, it significantly worsened there. He eventually went to the doctor due to his persistent coughing, where pneumonia was later determined to be the cause. The actor was released from the hospital the following day after spending the previous night there under observation.

The actor’s 40-year-old wife made the decision to end the rumors and inquiries on social media after she observed all the support and concern from fans. She said, “I woke up this morning and I saw the news and all your lovely and [worried] messages,” in the caption of a photo showing her and Gere walking hand in hand with their son. “He is improving, and today he feels lot better! ”

The worst has already [past], she continued.

Silva’s previous social media posts lead us to believe that the whole family is sick. She commented, “Thank you all for the birthday greetings.. in a post with a picture of me and my two kids strolling along the beach.. After over 3 weeks of sickness in our household, I am finally feeling much better today! I sincerely appreciate your devotion, and I return it all to you. “Happy birthday and happy 40th,”
