Nirvana ROCK LEGEND dies suddenly at 61

IMPORTANT music producer Steve Albini has died at the age of 61. He worked with well-known bands like Nirvana and the Pixies.

Albini had a heart attack and died. He was a producer and performer in the indie rock scene. Staff at his recording studio, Electrical Audio, confirmed this.

He was the lead singer for underground rock bands like Shellac and Big Black, but he was also known as a powerful studio artist.

Albini recorded the Pixies’ first album, Surfer Rosa, and Nirvana’s third and last album, In Utero.

Albini kept working with Nirvana after their lead singer Kurt Cobain died in 1994. He worked with the band on a number of box sets and their self-titled greatest hits album.

“I’m only interested in working on records that legitimately reflect the band’s own perception of their music and existence,” he told the band in a letter in 1992 that he wanted to work with them on their third album.

“If you will commit yourselves to that as a tenet of the recording methodology, then I will bust my a** for you.”

And Cobain liked Albini’s work on Surfer Rosa. He thought that Albini’s style of engineering would fit well with the band’s anti-corporate image.

“I don’t think [the label] were behind it,” bassist Krist Novoselic told Louder in August 2023.

“But we’d sold enough records to do whatever the hell we wanted.”

Albini finished working on In Utero on February 26, 1993, months before it came out on September 21, 1993. The album was recorded and mixed in less than two weeks.

In the end, it became their favorite album.

Before Albini died, Shellac was getting ready to put out To All Trains, their first album since 2014.

The album was supposed to come out on May 17, but it’s not clear yet if it will be pushed back.

“Stressed by Steve Albini’s death. He was without a doubt a giant of American indie rock, and he seemed to be going through a personal and professional renaissance,” wrote music critic Steven Hyden on X, which used to be called Twitter.

I found him interesting all the time, even when he was rude. And the sound of his drums is one of the best in recorded music. Rest in peace.”

We asked Electrical Audio for a comment and got one from The U.S. Sun.

“Room of Decline” wrote on X, “Rest in peace, Steve Albini.” This is f*king awful. We talked to each other a few times here. I’m not joking when I say that The Breeders’ Pod has the best production of any album ever. Really smart. I will really miss him.”

Elijah Wood, an actor, said that Albini’s death was the “heartbreaking loss of a legend.”

“Love to his family and all of his many coworkers.” I’ll miss you, Steve Albini,” a tweet said.

Primavera Sound, a place where Albini and his band often played, said, “We have lost a legend, a friend, and a family member.” Steve, what are we going to do without you?”

“After having welcomed them at 15 editions of the festival, it is impossible for us to imagine a Primavera Sound without him, because no band explains us better than Shellac.”
