Mark Zuckerberg Warns Users Not to Take Screenshots on Facebook Messenger

In a recent announcement, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg issued a warning to Facebook Messenger users: avoid taking screenshots of private chats, especially those using the app’s disappearing messages feature.

Zuckerberg emphasized that privacy is a growing priority for Messenger, and taking screenshots of conversations undermines that goal.

Messenger includes features like end-to-end encryption and self-destructing messages, designed to give users more control over their privacy.

When someone takes a screenshot in a disappearing chat, Messenger will now notify the other person—similar to how Snapchat handles it.

“We want people to feel safe sharing sensitive information,” Zuckerberg said. “Taking screenshots without consent is not only disrespectful, it can violate someone’s trust.”

While the feature is currently rolling out gradually, it’s part of a broader push by Meta to align Messenger with modern privacy standards. Users are encouraged to respect others’ privacy and use built-in tools like message reactions or disappearing messages instead of capturing chats.

So next time you’re tempted to take a screenshot in Messenger, think twice—because both Facebook and your friend might be watching.
