There is no love like the one shared by Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter.
“The most significant thing in my life,” according to Jimmy Carter, 98, and Rosalynn Carter, 95, is their marriage.
Carter told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday to first choose the right spouse, saying that there are only two things that may ensure a long and happy marriage. Carter is the oldest U.S. president currently in office. And each night we try to make up for all the disagreements from the day before.
As of 2019, the Carters are the longest-married presidents, surpassing George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush. They commemorated their 76th wedding anniversary in July 2022.
How do you keep the flame alive after all these years? Often, the simplest solutions are the best.
In the 1940s, when the 98-year-old former president was still a young naval officer, he devised a technique to show his wife how much he loved her.
You are my absolute favorite. He said, “That’s what my mother and father used to say back and forth, and I picked it up with Rosa,” in a 2014 interview with People.
ILYTG became such a big part of their lives together that Jimmy had it carved into a compact he handed Rosalynn.
The contract paperwork are kept in the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Carter children have also been using ILYTG among themselves, much like Jimmy.
“Now, all of our kids ILYTG on the phone or in emails. Typically, he said, they merely give the initials. Additionally, they sometimes change the initials, leaving you to wonder what they are referring to.
However, Carter has learned that it’s important to spend time with his partner and “give each other lots of freedom to do our own thing.” They regularly take part in pursuits like fly fishing, bird watching, and church attendance. Every night before going to bed, they read the Bible together.
The couple’s relationship was referred to as a “partnership” by Rosalynn Carter on July 4 in an interview with the Associated Press. I knew more about the firm on paper than he did, Rosalynn said. I told him he would take my advice.
The time the Carters spent cooped up in their Plains, Georgia, home during the coronavirus outbreak contributed to the development of their relationship over time. The 39th president claimed during a guest appearance on “GMA” that their 75-year marriage had deepened their love for one another. “I think that was a little extraordinary. Although not many couples do, it did occur to us.
It’s impossible not to love them. The Carters are the nicest, most genuine individuals you will ever meet.
