Michael Pitt, renowned for his roles in Boardwalk Empire and Dawson’s Creek, was arrested in Brooklyn, New York.
He faces nine criminal charges stemming from alleged incidents between April 2020 and August 2021 involving his ex-girlfriend.
The charges include two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, first- and third-degree criminal sexual acts, multiple counts of assault, attempted assault, and second-degree strangulation .
According to the grand jury indictment, the alleged incidents occurred at Pitt’s residence in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Specific allegations detail that in April 2020, Pitt forcibly touched the complainant sexually.
In August 2020, he allegedly forced oral sex on her and assaulted her with a piece of lumber. Further incidents in June and August 2021 involve attacks with a cinderblock and attempted strangulation .
Pitt, 44, pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on bail. His attorney, Jason Goldman, issued a statement asserting Pitt’s innocence, stating, “We have already uncovered exonerating evidence and this case will be dismissed.” Goldman emphasized that the allegations surfaced years after the events and during a time when the relationship was consensual .

This arrest follows prior legal issues for Pitt. In 2022, he was arrested for assault and petty larceny after allegedly hitting a man and stealing his phone. Later that year, he was hospitalized following a public outburst in New York City, where he was deemed emotionally disturbed .
Pitt is scheduled to appear in court again on June 17. If convicted of the most serious charges, he could face a significant prison sentence.
