Beloved Entertainer Passes Away Unexpectedly

In a tragic incident that shook the entertainment community, actor Treat Williams, known for his roles in Everwood and Hair, lost his life in a motorcycle accident on June 12, 2023, in Dorset, Vermont.

The driver involved, Ryan Koss, 35, has since pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of negligent driving with death resulting.​

The Incident

On the day of the accident, Koss was driving a Honda SUV and attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot. In doing so, he turned into the path of Williams’ oncoming motorcycle.

Despite wearing a helmet, Williams sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center in New York, where he was pronounced dead at the age of 71.

Legal Proceedings

Initially, Koss faced a felony charge of gross negligent operation with death resulting, which could have led to up to 15 years in prison. However, he later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of negligent driving with death resulting. As part of a plea agreement, Koss received a one-year deferred sentence, during which his driver’s license will be revoked, and he must complete a community restorative justice program.

Courtroom Statements

During the emotional court hearing, Koss, who knew Williams personally through their involvement in the local theater community, expressed deep remorse. “I’m here to apologize and take responsibility for this tragic accident,” he stated. ​
