George Clooney still adores his wife Amal, despite harsh criticism from fans.
“As everyone has come to realize as they see her, hear her, and hear what she stands for, everything about my wife is sort of magical.” Clooney told Entertainment Tonight in 2022. “She has no drawbacks.”
George Clooney is a seasoned actor and director. The 1979–1988 sitcom The Facts of Life featured the Hollywood heartthrob as a young handyman. He recently starred in ER and movies including O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), Ocean’s Eleven (2001), and Ticket to Paradise (2022).
He met gorgeous Lebanese-British human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in 2013.
The couple got engaged in 2014, six months after their first date.
“Literally, I dropped it on her, and she just kept saying, ‘Oh, my God,’ and ‘Wow!’” Clooney, 61, added. We sat there till I said, “Listen, I’m 52, and I’ve been on my knee now for about 28 minutes, so I have to get an answer out of this or I’ll throw a hip out.” I might fall!”
Bono, Matt Damon, and Bill Murray attended the couple’s September 2014 wedding at Venice’s Aman Canal Grande hotel.
Amal was exposed to online haters when she started dating Clooney.
Amal, 45, represents Julian Assange, the creator of WikiLeaks, and former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who backed EU membership. UN representative in 2019.
Social media users brand her “ugly” and a “gawky gargoyle” for her dress and figure, ignoring her triumphs.
“I am completely baffled at the fact that when George Clooney finally settles down he picks Amal Clooney, who looks like an ugly man,” one Twitter user commented in January 2015.
In September of that year, ELLE Magazine tweeted a link to 54 Times Amal Clooney Looked Just Stunning. Readers commented.
“She’s lovely but she has sticky icky skinny legs, shapeless sticks,” commented one, while another penned “So so thin too too thin boney old thing.”
Another supported the lawyer: “Amal Clooney is an intelligent & accomplished lawyer!! Who cares?
One major news outlet disregarded Amal’s achievements.
The Associated Press was criticized in 2015 for calling Amal, who represented Egyptian-Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy, a “actor’s wife.”
“Amal Clooney, actor’s wife, representing Al-Jazeera journalist accused in Egypt of ties to extremists,” said the Tweet.
AP changed the Tweet to “Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney criticizes prison terms handed down to three Al-Jazeera English journalists” after people responded.
Amal told BBC’s Entertainment Tonight, “There’s nothing I can do except keep going.” Criticizing news that focuses on the wrong problems is gratifying and shows that people expect more from their press.”
Time named Amal one of 12 Women of the Year in March 2022. Her client, Filipino-American writer and Nobel Peace laureate Maria Ressa, wrote the narrative. In Amal Clooney Won’t Back Down, Amal says:
I can only focus on what matters to raise my public presence. Some clients may benefit. I can’t control reporting on irrelevant concerns at work functions. Since I can’t control it, I don’t focus on it and just carry on with my work and life and hope attitudes catch up.”
Amal’s husband’s continual flattery is heartwarming.
He said, “She’s stunning and has a great sense of style—there’s no stylist or anything, she just comes out like that and she shows up and she looks stunning. She manages 11 cases at once. She’s amazing.”
The beautiful pair, who met in 2013, spends a lot of time at their waterfront Villa Oleandra in Lake Como with their 2017 twins Alexander and Ella.
Clooney told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017 that he felt lucky every day. “Career lucky. Found the perfect mate. Sometimes you find your soulmate when you least expect it. I and Amal feel that way.”
