AM I A BAD HUSBAND FOR MY REACTION AT MY WIFE’S FATHER’S DAY GIFT TO ME?

AM I A BAD HUSBAND FOR MY REACTION AT MY WIFE’S FATHER’S DAY GIFT TO ME?

So, for Mother’s Day, I had to work. My wife was stuck at home with our four kids all day — ages 10, 5, 4, and 9 months. I had been grinding non-stop for two weeks and hadn’t had a chance to get her anything.

After my shift ended, I went shopping and got home at 8 p.m. So yeah, her Mother’s Day “sucked.” All she wanted was some alone time to relax, without anyone needing her for anything. But I had to work, and I didn’t get off until 6:30 p.m.

She wasn’t super upset but asked for a back rub as a way to make it up. I started rubbing her back and damn near immediately fell asleep because I was exhausted from work. So, I kind of botched her day.

Fast forward to Father’s Day yesterday. I had to work, but only until noon. She asked what I wanted for dinner and suggested things like taking the kids fishing or swimming. Honestly, I didn’t want any of that. All I wanted was to relax and work on my truck without interruptions. As soon as I said this, she …gave me a strange look and said, “Well, that’s kind of boring. Don’t you want to do something with the kids?”

I sighed, already sensing where this was going. “Babe, I just want some time to myself. The same thing you wanted on Mother’s Day.”

She frowned but didn’t argue. Instead, she went about her day as usual.

When I got home from work, I was excited to finally have a peaceful afternoon. I changed into my garage clothes, grabbed my tools, and headed outside.

Not even fifteen minutes in, I heard the back door slam.

“Hey, the kids want to help!” my wife announced cheerfully, ushering our four kids into the garage before I could even protest.

The next two hours were a disaster. My 5-year-old kept asking unrelated questions, my 4-year-old knocked over my toolbox, and my 9-month-old was screaming inside. My wife? She sat in a chair, scrolling on her phone like it was just another regular day.

Finally, I lost it.

“Are you serious right now? This is my Father’s Day?” I snapped.

She blinked at me. “What? You get to work on your truck, and the kids get to spend time with you. Win-win!”

“No! I said I wanted peace, just like you did on Mother’s Day! Why is it okay for you to get alone time, but when I ask for the same, I’m a bad dad?”

She rolled her eyes. “Wow, I didn’t realize working on a truck alone was such a big deal.”

I was done. I wiped my hands, walked inside, and locked the bedroom door behind me.

Later that evening, she told me I was being dramatic and ruining Father’s Day for everyone. I told her she completely disregarded my request while expecting me to honor hers.

Now, she’s giving me the cold shoulder, and I’m starting to wonder…

Am I a bad husband for my reaction?
