A little girl, no older than five, all by herself on a deserted stretch of road

The road was silent, stretching out in the dim light as David drove, humming along to the soft tunes on the radio. But then he saw her — a tiny figure on the side of the road, standing alone in a tattered dress, her hair hanging in messy strands. His heart skipped a beat. A little girl, no older than five, all by herself on a deserted stretch of road?

He pulled over, heart pounding as he approached her. The little girl didn’t move; she just stared, unblinking, her face expressionless. The closer he got, the colder the air seemed to become. David forced a smile, trying to hide his unease.

“Are you lost, sweetheart?” he asked gently. She didn’t respond. Instead, she extended a small hand, holding a crumpled piece of paper. Her hand was trembling as she pushed the note toward him, and a strange sense of dread washed over him.

He took the note, unfolding it carefully, his hands unsteady. The handwriting was scrawled, shaky and erratic, as though it had been written in haste or fear. As he read the words, his blood turned to ice:

“Please, help me. He’s coming for me. Don’t leave me here.”

David looked up, his breath catching in his throat. But the girl was gone. She had vanished without a sound, leaving nothing but an eerie silence and the fading warmth of where she had stood. He spun around, searching the shadows, calling out, “Hello? Little girl, where are you?”

There was no answer. The road was empty.

He climbed back into his car, his mind racing, and glanced down at the note, reading it over and over. The words haunted him, sending chills down his spine. Who was coming for her? And why had she disappeared?

But just as he gripped the steering wheel, preparing to drive away, something in the rearview mirror caught his eye. A figure, standing in the middle of the road, perfectly still. The shape was barely visible in the darkness, but he could make out its shadowy form — tall, thin, and unmoving. David’s heart raced as he realized that the figure was watching him.

Terrified, he put the car into gear and sped off down the road, his eyes flicking back and forth between the road and the rearview mirror. But as he drove, he felt a strange weight settle in the car, like a presence. His knuckles turned white as he gripped the steering wheel tighter.

And then he heard it — a soft whisper, coming from the back seat.

“Don’t leave me alone… he’s coming for me…”

David froze, fear gripping him. Slowly, he glanced in the rearview mirror, and there, in the shadows of the back seat, he saw her. The little girl. Her eyes wide, filled with fear, and fixed on something behind him.

His heart raced, and his entire body felt paralyzed. He wanted to speak, but no words would come out. He forced himself to look forward, focusing on the road, but her voice continued, soft and desperate.

“Please… you have to help me. He’s so close.”

As the car sped through the night, the headlights illuminating the dark road ahead, David noticed another figure appear at the side of the road. And then another. Each one stood motionless, watching him as he passed. Shadows lined the road, unmoving and silent, their eyes fixed on his car.

He couldn’t escape the dread that filled the car, couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible was happening. Desperately, he reached out, fumbling with the radio, hoping to drown out the whispers, but they only grew louder, more insistent.

“He’s almost here. You can’t leave me.”

The girl’s voice rose, her tone now filled with panic. David could feel his grip on reality slipping, the weight of fear pressing down on him as he realized the car was slowing on its own, despite his foot pressing harder on the gas pedal.

And then, suddenly, the car stopped.

Silence fell, thick and suffocating. David looked around, heart hammering in his chest, as the shadows closed in around him, surrounding the car. He looked back, but the girl was gone. He was alone.

And then, from the darkness outside, he heard it — a faint, cold voice whispering in the night:

“She warned you… but you left her.”

Before he could react, the shadows outside the car began to close in, enveloping him in darkness. And in his last moments, he saw the girl standing by the roadside, her face etched with sadness, as she slowly faded into the shadows, leaving him alone to face what was coming.
