A second reason why bath towels smell bad is that you use too much detergent when you wash them. Towels rinse much harder, so there will be traces of detergent on them, as well as traces of dirt. As a result, bacteria grow that cause bad smells. If you let towels sit in the washing machine too long after the wash cycle has finished, you risk them catching a bad smell.

The easiest solution is to use 240 grams of baking soda and dissolve it in a cup of hot water. After the baking soda has dissolved, put the towels in a basin of cold water, and then add the solution from the mug. Let the baking soda work for at least 4 hours or overnight and you’ll see that the next day the bad smells are gone. If your towels have a bad smell caused by excessive sweating, then you can get rid of this problem by using a solution of water and vinegar in equal quantities.
