What happens in your body when you drink coffee in the morning on an empty stomach

A simple cup of coffee on an empty stomach is a real disaster for the body.

If you want to continue enjoying your favorite drink, you need to make some changes.

Coffee is an important source of antioxidants that are very effective in preventing malignant diseases such as colon cancer. No one disputes that.

Coffee’s antioxidant properties are the result of chlorogenic acid (CGA), which is also found in fruit (and is thought to have certain health benefits such as preventing diabetes.

However, the question “is coffee healthy or not?” is debatable and quite often asked especially by true coffee lovers. Another question on the lips of many coffee lovers concerns the habit of consuming coffee on an empty stomach in the morning, is it healthy or not?

As I said, coffee is a great source of antioxidants, thanks to the chlorogenic acid in its composition. CGA slows down the absorption time of sugars from food, keeping blood sugar levels constant, which prevents hunger pangs.

It also inhibits the process of converting serum glucose into fat tissue, regulates nervous system activity, reducing stress reactivity and paroxysmal hunger attacks. Chlorogenic acid prevents the inflammation of adipose tissue, thus inhibiting the formation of cellulite.

Despite the benefits of coffee, it becomes harmful when consumed on an empty stomach.

A single cup of black coffee stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the digestive tract, a sensation felt especially by people prone to gastritis.

However, healthy people can also feel this effect because hydrochloric acid is used to dissolve the food they eat. The stimulation of hydrochloric acid affects digestion, especially after heavy meals and prevents normal protein digestion.

Insufficiently digested protein can lead to many health problems such as bloating, irritation and inflammation of the intestines and even cancer.

Specialists recommend drinking a cup of coffee an hour after waking up and eating breakfast. If you still can’t eat in the morning, try eating a slice of bread before enjoying your first cup of coffee that day.

In addition, it is not recommended to drink coffee as soon as you wake up because it stimulates the production of cortisol, which is very difficult to balance afterwards.

Cortisol is a steroid hormone, secreted by the adrenal glands. It is often also called the ‘stress hormone’ because its levels fluctuate depending on your emotional state and the physical stress you are under.

Cortisol is more than just an indicator of stress, it is also necessary for the functioning of most parts and organs of the human body.

Cortisol deficiency or excess can lead to various health problems.

In conclusion, a single cup of coffee consumed in the morning on the stomach causes acidity, bloating and even vomiting. If you don’t want to eat anything beforehand, add a little milk or even butter to your coffee to reduce the negative effects.
