The first supermodel, Cheryl Tiegs, captivated men 45 years ago with her pink bikini poster.
She has since been on Sports Illustrated, Vogue, Glamour, and Time covers. Later, she leveraged her prominence to promote environmental protection while prioritizing her own well-being.
Despite her philanthropy, Tiegs has been criticized for accusing Sports Illustrated of “glamorizing” a “full-figured model.”
Tiegs, 75, from Alhambra, near Pasadena, started modeling after a friend suggested it.
Tiegs said she started modeling in school after thinking models were from another world. She performed at department store parking lot fashion displays for free and later for $5 an hour, which she called “great money for me at the time.” I rejoiced. I tried my hardest.
Glamour magazine hired 17-year-old Tiegs for a shoot in St. Thomas without meeting her after seeing her in a multi-page swimsuit spread. Glamour started hiring her often. In 1966, Teen magazine published her first professional cover.
Tiegs appeared on three Time covers, including the 1978 All-American Model issue, and three Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions in 1970, 1975, and 1983. Men’s Health named her one of the 100 Sexiest Women Ever in 2012.
“I don’t know what it’s like today, but I think it’s much more catered to the models,” Tiegs said of her early modeling career. They get much more attention now. “People magazine wasn’t even around when I started modeling,” she added.
No CNN or Entertainment Tonight. No cell phones, Twitter, or Facebook either. Thus, only now. I liked the present-focused approach.
Tiegs transitioned from modeling to acting in a 1986 Moonlighting episode with Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis. She appeared in Just Shoot Me and Family Guy.
In 2011, she competed on RuPaul’s Drag Race, and in 2012, she represented the Farrah Fawcett Foundation on Celebrity Apprentice.
Tiegs co-starred with Chlöe Sevigny in 2003’s The Brown Bunny and 2016’s Sharknado 4: The Fourth Awakens.
Most of my fellow models became actresses because it made sense. I decided against acting.
She became a mother and wife.
In 1981, she married photographer and artist Peter Beard. From 1970 to 1979, Tiegs was married to Mr. Mom director Stan Dragoti.
The pair spent years at Beard’s Kenya ranch. This phase was the “most amazing” because “it brought me up to another level in life and taught me so much about the animal kingdom and nature,” she says. One of my greatest adventures.
Tiegs, who divorced Beard in 1983, said Beard was the most passionate love of her life. He made me fall in love. “I’ve loved him,” she says.
After three years with Beard, the attractive supermodel married Anthony Peck, Gregory Peck’s son. She and Peck raised their first child, Zachary (born 1991), an actor.
She married yoga instructor Rod Stryker (1998–2001) after divorcing Peck in 1995. The couple’s twin kids, Jaden and Theo, were born via surrogacy in 2001, despite her declaration that “it was so not a marriage.”
Because she wanted a future for children, Tiegs concentrated on the environment. She raises awareness of global warming, promotes women’s reproductive rights, and serves on the Earth Conservation Corps board in Washington, D.C.
“The world is shrinking. “I think we have to reach out and ally with all our friends worldwide,” Cheryl said.
She also visited the melting Barnes Ice Cap in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and the Tarahumara indigenous in Mexico’s Copper Canyon.
In 2013, Tiegs advertised her 4,770-square-foot, Balinese-style Bel-Air home for $12 million, drawing media attention. In 2020, the house sold for $14,075,000.
In 2016, she implied that Sports Illustrated’s cover of plus-sized model Ashley Graham promoted an unhealthy lifestyle.
I dislike talking about full-figured ladies because it glorifies them. On E! News, Tiegs remarked, “That’s what Dr. Oz said, and I’m sticking to it.It’s unhealthy. Beautiful face. Beautiful. It’s not healthy long-term.
In 2017, Tiegs said that the media sensationalized her words “because all I was doing was trying to look out for the health of someone who’s too thin or going on the other side of the scale.” Just choose your healthy path. Her health is unknown. She decides.
Tiegs stays fit and beautiful with yoga and a good diet.
You must work for it. Diet and exercise are daily tasks. As you become older, you may quit working out or taking Zumba classes. Exercise daily.
“Do something you like,” she says. I read a lot but quit. I’m back. Make hilarious pals. I only want a life-enriching friend right now. It’s nice, healthy, and joyful.”
Cheryl Tiegs, 75, is beautiful despite her profession.
Do you agree with Tiegs that being skinny is healthy?
