Jodie Foster waited almost 35 years before finally telling the truth

Jodie Foster’s private life has always been kept secret from the public, despite the fact that she grew up in front of her audience.

She began her long and successful career in film when she was still a young child, and over the years, she landed several memorable roles. Her major break came when she was just 12 years old and portrayed a juvenile prostitute in Taxi Driver, a 1976 film by Martin Scorsese.

Foster has won three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards. For her “great contributions to the world of entertainment,” she was given the honorary Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 70th Golden Globe Awards in 2013.

The Silence of the Lambs actress is a well-known director as well as a mother of two children.

Throughout time, there were many rumors about Foster’s sexual orientation, and people couldn’t help but wonder with whom she had her boys.

It took Foster a long time to come clean about who she really was; to be exact, it took her 35 years from the time she was asked about her preference for men in an interview when she was 17 years old before she admitted that she was in fact drawn to women.

Foster was required to respond to the question “What type of fellas do you like?” during the interview in question. Although she maintained her composure, others began to wonder if she was even interested in males due to her facial expressions.

In actuality, she was terrified for her professional future. She had been holding out for the ideal opportunity to come out, and she felt that her 2013 award acceptance speech was the time. “I hope you’re not upset that there won’t be a huge coming-out speech today, because I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age,” Foster remarked as she entered the stage.

“Since I’m here being all confessional,” she said, “I guess I just have a sudden impulse to say something that I’ve never really been able to air in public.”

Foster disclosed that from 1993 through 2008, she dated producer Sidney Bernard, with whom she had both of her kids, Kit and Charlie.

No one in the audience was able to keep a dry eye while listening to her discuss her personal life.

After a year of dating, photographer Alexandra Hedison, who had previously been an actor but didn’t feel it was the right career for her, married Foster in 2014.

Ellen DeGeneres and Hedison once dated. Between 2000 and 2004, they were a couple and even discussed adopting a kid together before splitting up.

Hedison and Foster don’t frequently appear together in public. In actuality, the two have only made a small number of joint red carpet appearances; their most recent being at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

Foster delivered her victory speech via video from home as Hedison stood by her side when she won a Golden Globe for her work in The Mauritanian. She kissed her wife and said, “Alex, I love my wife, thank you!”

We are overjoyed that Jodie Foster is now living her life authentically.
