Actor Michael Pitt, renowned for his roles in Boardwalk Empire and Dawson’s Creek, was arrested on May 2, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York, following a grand jury indictment on nine criminal charges.
These charges encompass first-degree sexual abuse, criminal sexual acts, assault, attempted assault, and strangulation, all related to alleged incidents involving his ex-girlfriend between April 2020 and August 2021 at his Bushwick residence.
The indictment details four separate incidents:
- In April 2020, Pitt allegedly forcibly touched the victim’s genitals.
- In August 2020, he is accused of forcing oral sex on her and assaulting her with a piece of lumber.
- In June 2021, he purportedly attacked her with a cinder block.
- In August 2021, he allegedly choked her.
Pitt, 44, pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on $100,000 bail. His attorney, Jason Goldman, has denied the allegations, stating that they stem from an unreliable individual and are based on events from a time when the relationship was consensual. Goldman expressed confidence in exonerating evidence that he believes will lead to the case’s dismissal .

This is not Pitt’s first encounter with legal issues. In 2022, he faced charges of assault and petty larceny after allegedly hitting a man and taking his phone. Later that year, he was hospitalized under police escort following reports of erratic behavior, including throwing objects from a rooftop .
Pitt’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 17, 2025
