After her husband suffered a stroke, Carla Brooks, a kind woman, has been caring for him for the past 20 years.
After he died a few years ago, Carla believed her life had lost meaning. Her son Burton had a brilliant idea at that precise moment.
A few days after his father’s passing, Burton was flipping through an old photo album when he came across three postcards from his mother’s 1962 trip to Europe. At the same time, he had a fantastic idea: as a “thank you,” he extended an invitation for her to travel to Europe. They will go to twenty different countries, one for each year she looked for his father.
The journey
Burton felt that by being there, he would be able to ease his mother’s burden of sadness in the wake of his father’s illness and passing. He then started to prepare the surprise.
Burton said on his blog, “After the stroke, my mother took care of my crippled father – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, till he passed away last year.
“Ever as I can remember, dad would jokingly ask, ‘How did you do that?’ anytime she performed something spectacular. She would constantly smile when someone said, “You’re just a little kid from Kamas (a small town in the state of Utah, the United States). However, now that he’s gone, she is absolutely confused, doesn’t know what to do with herself, and can’t seem to discover the old adventurer concealed inside her.
“I think it’s time to find the little girl from Kamas and prove to her that she still has a lot of life left to live,” I said, “and I wanted to try if I could change that by bringing her on a major journey.
Nothing should be taken for granted.
What a wonderful son! It’s crucial for us to recognize the value of time and to stop taking for granted that our loved ones will always be there for us.
Share this son’s great surprise with others to encourage them to show their mothers the same love that they have shown to us.
