A woman is upset when an old friend uses her name for a baby without her permission.

With more than 8 billion people in the world, it’s common to take names from other people, things, countries, or even fruit.

In 2021, Mia is the eighth most popular girl’s name. One woman, though, claimed it as her own.

Mia reported her old friend online, saying that she stole her name “Mia” and gave it to her baby daughter. She also said that using her name without permission was wrong.

Someone on Reddit asked for help with how to handle the situation where her ex-friend Melinda stole her name and gave it to her baby.

Mia says that she and Melinda were close when they were in their 20s and thinks that’s why the baby’s new name comes from her.

“She was always a little strange, but we stayed friends for a while,” she says, adding that they were in each other’s weddings before they stopped being friends.

Mia writes, “Recently, Melinda had a girl. She said her name was Amelia, but they call her Mia.” This seemed strange to me since my name is Mia. I thought she was naming her child after me, but we weren’t close enough for that, and she hadn’t even asked.

To feel better, Mia talked to a friend they both had, and that friend agreed it was weird.

The original poster wasn’t going to talk to Melinda about stealing her name, but when she saw the friend and her husband at a party, she couldn’t keep quiet any longer.

“She showed me the baby, and I joked, ‘Yeah, my namesake.'” I told her, “Her name is Mia,” and she gave me a strange look. “Hi, my name is Mia.”” The post goes on, “Melinda said her name was Amelia and Mia was a nickname. My real name is Mia.” I told her I got it, but I thought it was strange but cute that she named her after me.

Then, her friend, who was confused, told her that the baby was named after her husband’s mother. “I nodded, and it was clear she was mad,” the poster says.

After that, the mudslinging began.

Mia told Melinda why she “thought” the baby was named after her.

It must have been “a weird coincidence and seemed like something [Melinda] would do,” says the poster.

The friend snapped back, “You’re not important enough for me to name a baby after.” This made Melinda angry. When the old friend heard Mia say, “that was rude,” he replied, “so is trying to imply [Melinda is] weird because her baby and I have the same name.”

Mia ends her post by saying, “our mutual friends think I shouldn’t have brought it up at all.” She is asking the Reddit community for advice. Still, some people think she went too far when she said, “I’m not important enough.”

It gets better…
Most users were confused by Mia’s sense of entitlement over her name and said, “The world does not revolve around you.”

“Mia, you’re not the only one. The name Mia isn’t even that strange. A friend would tell you if they chose a name because of you. “The fact that she didn’t do it and that you’re no longer together should be a big sign that it wasn’t about you,” wrote the most-liked comment on the post. “You are not the center of the world. Why are you mad that she doesn’t think you’re important enough for her to name a child after you? You feel the same way. For that reason, you said that you’re not close enough to each other, so you should be glad that she agreed with you.

Someone else says, “She was so rude to tell Melinda that calling her baby after her was ‘odd but cute.'” I cringe at what an egomaniac they are.

At the same time, some cyber fans couldn’t help but make fun of the first poster.

“I don’t know,” one writes. My childhood friend has a cousin named Lauren, and my name is Lauren. “Some people are just crazy!” Adding to what Lauren said, someone else jokes, “Excuse me, but that’s my name. Your parents clearly named you after me.” I was the very first Lauren. The other four Laurens in my sixth-grade class were the same way.

A third person jokes, “Back in 2000, I gave my cat the name Mia.” Based on her behavior, I think OP was named after my cat, who looks about the right age (OP).

Finally, a cybernaut writes, “My best friend is named after the dog of her mom’s friend.” The dog is likely still mad about it.
