Conchata Ferrell’s passing has left Jon Cryer thinking about their time together on Two and a Half Men.
On his Twitter account on Tuesday, the 55-year-old actor paid tribute to Ferrell, who adored maid Berta on the CBS sitcom, calling the actress a “wonderful human.”
“The writers invented Berta’s stern exterior. Chatty’s genuine qualities, according to him, were her friendliness and openness. I’m sobbing for the woman I’ll miss and the happiness she gave so many.
It was during the second episode of Two and a Half Men that Cryer first met Ferrell, and he said, “I felt so happy that they’d been able to place her on the show. She flatly refused to believe that I was a huge admirer of hers when I gushed to her about it.
Before she realized that he was serious, he said, “I had to recite one of my favorite moments from a canceled mid-’70s sitcom called ‘Hot L Baltimore’.” I’m delighted I was fully aware of how lucky I was to perform on stage alongside her.
“I relished every second and will do so till we cross paths again. In reference to the show’s character’s nickname, Cryer remarked, “I have a feeling she’ll call me Zippy.
Edward Scissorhands, Erin Brockovich, Network, and Heartland are just a few of Ferrell’s “great body of film work,” which Cryer encouraged fans to “check out” in his homage.
He continued, “My Thoughts are with Arnie, Samantha, her family, and the numerous UCLA students whose lives she impacted. ”
According to Deadline, complications from a heart attack led to Ferrell’s death on Monday at the age of 77. At Sherman Oaks Hospital in Sherman Oaks, California, she was surrounded by her family.
A request for a response from PEOPLE was not immediately answered by Ferrell’s representative.
According to her husband, Arnie Anderson, the actress was admitted to the hospital in May after becoming ill. Ferrell spent more than four weeks in the intensive care unit and experienced a cardiac arrest once, Anderson estimating it to endure for roughly 10 minutes. Ferrell couldn’t speak or communicate and was put on a respirator and started on dialysis before being sent to a long-term care facility.
The actress told TMZ in February that she had been staying at her vacation house in Charleston, West Virginia, since Thanksgiving when she was admitted to the hospital in December with a kidney infection.
She revealed that the illness worsened as it spread and got into her blood. Before being discharged and placed in transitional care in January, Ferrell spent weeks in the intensive care unit. She recovered at home for a month while she was bedridden, undergoing physical therapy many times every day.
The actress informed the publication that her spouse supported her through the ordeal and gave his all to take care of her.
