Legendary actor has sadly passed away today

William Russell, a legendary DOCTOR WHO character, has died at the age of 99, and many people are very sad about it.

The star died yesterday. He was best known for his role as schoolteacher Ian Chesterton in the first Doctor Who series.

Russell made his debut in An Unearthly Child, the very first Doctor Who story. He was in it with William Hartnell, who played the First Doctor.

With Jacqueline Hill as Barbara Wright, Carole Ann Ford as Susan Foreman, and then Maureen O’Brien as Vicki, he played lead roles.

The well-known actor was in almost all of the first two seasons of Doctor Who.

They would make way for one of the best franchises in the country.

Russell went on to read Doctor Who audio stories after leaving the popular show in 1965.

Later, when he played Ian again in Jodie Whittaker’s last episode, “The Power of the Doctor,” he set a Guinness World Record for the longest time between TV appearances. Fans were thrilled.

He was also in the classic movie The Great Escape, the 1978 movie Superman, and the TV show Coronation Street as Ted Sullivan.

Besides that, he quickly filled in for Wilfrid Brambell in an episode of The Black Adder.

The star was also known for being a good actor in the theater, and he got parts with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, and the Globe Theatre.

The cause of death has not been proven yet.

He was married to Etheline and had a son named Alfred. Alfred has become a movie star like his father and played Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter movies.

There are also four grandchildren and three children from his first marriage that survive the actor.

TRIBUTES FROM THE HEART: Fans who are heartbroken have been posting tributes all over social media.

Nicole Bryant, who plays Doctor Who, wrote, “What sad news to say goodbye to William Russell.”

“What a wonderful man with a delightful family an extraordinary life & career.”

“Raising a glass to William Russell, who died just a few months before his 100th birthday,” said someone else.
