Mother gets angry when she tells her daughter to stop cuddling her

Along with her young daughter, the 37-year-old woman wrote about a recent event on Reddit’s “Am I The A*****e” thread.

“My daughter is very small for her age, so people sometimes treat her like a younger child,” the woman wrote at the start of her post.

“She loves to jump on my lap or my husband’s lap and cuddle with us on the couch or in a chair,” she said. She went on to say that she was starting to worry that her daughter was “getting too old” for that kind of cuddling and that she might be hurting her by letting her keep doing it.

The woman wrote her post the day before her 11-year-old daughter tried to hug and sit on her mother’s lap. The woman said, “I told her she was too old for that and to get off of me.” “She got mad, jumped off of me, went to her room, and slammed the door.”

Now, the little girl wasn’t trying to cuddle with her mom, and it looks like there was some stress at home after what happened. The woman said, “She doesn’t talk to me unless she has to, and she didn’t hug me back when I fell asleep last night.”

She also asked other Redditors if they thought she was the bad guy because she felt bad about hurting her feelings and thought the girl might be too old to sit on her lap.

The woman was called “the a*****e” in the situation, and many people in the comments slammed her for wasting time with her daughter that could have been used to bond. In the end, her story did not go over well at all!

“She won’t want to hold you for much longer.” You might still have a year. “That time is important to you, but you’re wasting it,” someone said.

“There’s nothing wrong with telling a child to behave in a way that’s more appropriate for their age or saying that something is no longer comfortable for you,” said someone else. You can help a child grow up in that way. But you do need to teach them the right way to behave (because they don’t know it on their own) and let them know that even though your relationship with them is changing, your love for them stays the same.

“If you told her to ‘Get off’ without giving her any warning, it’s easy to see why she took that as rejection. She has no idea what kind of physical affection is okay and what will get her angry,” they said.

Another note said, “I work at a nursing home.” Every week, a 78-year-old man comes to see his 99-year-old mother. They hold each other and all of a sudden both of them feel better. Your parents will always be there for you when you need them.
